Knotex GmbH - History

Knotex Maschinenbau GmbH was founded in 1949 in Augsburg by Ernst Fleck, a local businessman. The objectives at the time were the manufacture and sale of a completely new tying machine. In 1950, the first "universal warp tying machine" from Knotex made its market début. The excellent design of this machine and its modular concept contributed to its enormous success, at first nationally, and later also in Europe and overseas.

The steadily increasing production capacities of textile mills were instrumental in helping Knotex machines gain a powerful position on the global market. And the numerous innovations made by Knotex, especially with respect to the tyability of new fibers and yarns, were the catalysts that made Knotex the undisputed worldwide leader on this sector of special-purpose machines.

1981 saw a significant expansion to our product range. In addition to the wide range of warp tying machines, the company started with the manufacture and worldwide sale of semi-automatic drawing-in systems and reeding machines. Here, too, application-oriented new developments such as a harness indication system succeeded in rapidly securing a leading position for Knotex on the global market.

The integration of computer-aided control and monitoring functions into tying and drawing-in systems is another area where the specialization of our company has a positive effect. Here, too, Knotex also holds a leading position.

Today, the machines we make in Augsburg (Bavaria) are exported to over 120 different countries, and the export share of our total sales is over 95%.
